From curious youngster to pro game developer. Cian started at Hackingtons at just 10 years old. From the start we could see how enthusiastic he was for building great things through code and how eager he was to advance his skills. Along the way he built quite a few projects, but his passion for game development shone the brightest. This passion landed him a role as a programmer in the gaming industry at just 17 years old.
His first site was very silly! We can always tell a student is enjoying the coding process when their projects have so much personality in them. At Hackingtons we encourage this silliness, it helps the students make the project one of theirs, not one of ours.
Cian wanted his websites to DO something so he started JavaScript. This allowed him to build his first "game", a duck clicker. Though it seems like a simple thing Cian was able to grasp core concepts like variables and events.
We saw Cian's love for building games and set him on that path. Using JavaScript allowed him to further expand his knowledge in web development but build games using the canvas element to make them more visualing appealing.
Pursuing a single curriculum to it's completion earns the student their Black Belt Certificate. This is a stamp of approval that they are ready to build anything their imagination can invent.
After years of hard work and dedication Cian gained a strong foundation in programming and was ready to start build games in a professional environment: Unity 3D.
This is where Cian thrived, creating very fun and addictive game experiences. He was coming up with his own spins on each project we built together. Even entering into game jams and other competitions. Cian was hitting his stride.
He starts to be a leader among coding groups. Creating teams of students to work on projects, mentoring them through tough spots, and encouraging them when the do well. Cian was one of the insporations in the creation of the Hackingtons Ambassador program.
Cian is currently working for a game studio building an online rpg chess game. It is a very cool and interesting project. Still in the early days but this is an incredible next step for someone who is so dedicated. Cian still attends Hackingtons, having just recently completed his Diamond Award, completing the Black Belt level in all 5 courses: Scratch, HTML, JS, Python, and Unity. Our job now is to spread the word of what an amazing programmer Cian is.
